I knew the moment I was able to see him for exactly who he is and perhaps more importantly, who he is not—and love him anyway. Love isn’t being with someone for who they could be or who you want them to be, it’s loving someone for who they are—it’s total acceptance of the person they are and the desire to be at their side when they become whatever it is they are meant to be. I realized then that no matter what point on his path he is on, and no matter how hard his struggles may be, I will love him and I will cherish his spirit for as long as I have breath in me to do so. J
